Benefits of Membership

IODE members have the opportunity to meet people and gain valuable work experience through volunteering.  Many of our members discovered hidden career paths by volunteering.

IODE members help build better communities and better families.  It fosters a greater trust between people and society.  IODE members also benefits from the feeling they get from helping others.

Each IODE chapter has the independence to choose and support projects in their own neighbourhood.

IODE membership is many things to many people. It is this diversification that holds the interest of the members and attracts other to it. What other organization has so much to offer to so many and in such different age groups?

By joining IODE, you will become part of a growing community of women who play an important role in making a difference in the lives of children and those in need.

IODE members give back to communities through education, community service and citizenship programs, with a special emphasis on children.

IODE involvement allows you to develop new skills and abilities, expand networking contacts, and gain valuable experience for employment while making new friends in your community and across Ontario.

IODE is proud of its heritage and traditions.

In 1900, Margaret Polson Murray of Montreal, encouraged the formation of a federation of women to promote patriotism, loyalty and service to others.

In 1901, the Federation was incorporated as Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire.

The name IODE was officially adopted in the 1970’s. We are a federally chartered charitable organization. The Provincial Chapter of Ontario IODE is under the jurisdiction of The National Chapter of Canada.

With members in chapters across Canada, the IODE tradition of serving children, youth and those in need continues.

Badge of Membership

Picture

The IODE badge of membership is worn by members to indicate their commitment to IODE. The seven-pointed star on a dark blue background has at its centre the Union Jack, showing our pride that Canada is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. The surrounding white circle embodying the name of the Organization in gold lettering is securely clasped at the base and symbolizes the union of purpose of all members. The crown surmounting the Badge represents loyalty to the Queen of Canada. Some members will also have a bar (or several bars) above their badge, designating them as past officers in either their own Chapter or at the Provincial or National levels. The badge is worn over a member’s heart.

Don't be shy, get in touch. We love meeting interesting people and making new friends.
