Greetings from The Lieutenant Governor of Ontario The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, OC OONT to the IODE members at the 103rd Provincial Annual Meeting 22 day of April 2023. |
Special Guest Speaker, Detective Constable Phil Poirier, of the Crimes Against Seniors Unit with the Hamilton Police Services spoke about internet frauds and scams.
The Hamilton Police Service the Crimes Against Seniors Unit has seen an increase in calls to seniors advising that they have won cash and a car in a lottery. The caller is then requested to send money to claim the prize. Seniors have experienced significant financial losses as a result. The Promise: You have won a fabulous valuable prize or an amount of cash and/or a car, but to claim the prize you must pay taxes, delivery charges, or legal fees.
INFORMATION TO CONSIDER - When you are a winner, you don’t have to pay any money for your prize.
