Congratulations to our IODE friend, OPP Sergeant Laura Nichols C & TSB, on receiving the 2011 OPP Community Service Award.

Laura is an OPP Officer, as is her husband, Ross. She is a member of IODE Dr. Herbert A. Bruce chapter in North Bay. Currently Laura is IODE Ontario Area Vice-President for the Northern Area and is formerly IODE Ontario Assistant Education Office for Adopted Classes.

Accolade Awards are presented to both uniform and civilian OPP personnel who make outstanding contributions to the organization and whose hard work and achievements also underscore the OPP's mission - "Policing Excellence through our People, our Work and our Relationships".

The awards program consists of various special team and individual categories. Nominations are first submitted by colleagues and are then narrowed down by a distinguished panel of community members and OPP staff. In the end, 13 remarkable individuals/teams are selected for their outstanding achievements.

Presentation of the award is Monday September 19th, 2011, OPP General Headquarters, Orillia, Ontario.

IODE Ontario President Bonnie Rees and IODE members manned a colourful booth for the first two days of the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto, August 19 and 20. This is the third year that IODE has taken advantage of the free space offered to non-profit organizations by the Canadian National Exhibition Association. It was a great opportunity for meeting the public and to collect hundreds of signatures from well-wishers for Queen Elizabeth’s upcoming Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
