Lorraine Leyden South Central Area Vice President

Lorraine started her monthly trek from St. Catharines to IODE Ontario head office as a Provincial Councillor to represent the chapters from the Area of South Central in the year 2000. Over the years, all committees have benefitted from her participation. She has served unfailingly on these committees and has always been willing to help achieve the aim of the projects.

In 2005, Lorraine became the Area Vice President for South Central Ontario, an office she still holds today, with just as much passion as she always has had. She is admired and respected by the primary chapters and their members that she serves with professionalism and affection in her area. We can tell that she is very popular with the chapter members by the number of invitations that comes in monthly. As a result, she has earned the nickname "Party Girl".

Lorraine is pleasant, cheerful and positive in her outlook for the goals of the IODE organization. She is always enthusiastic, committed and a faithful officer and councillor, whose service to the Provincial Executive Committee made her a worthy recipient of a Provincial Life Membership from IODE Ontario in April 2010.

As it is with many volunteers Lorraine is also active in her community outside of IODE. She has been the secretary/treasurer with the church cemetery in Port Dalhousie for the past 37 years. Her efforts as a fundraiser for Linhaven Homes have brought in some $300,000 to supply essential equipment whether for medical purposes or for improving the quality of life of the residents. She also heads a residents program, tending the bar as a server twice weekly, maintaining the inventory of beverages and snacks and attends regular meetings with senior management people.

For her church she does counting, runs fund-raisers such as an annual Taste of the Town and the Spring Card Party which are prime extra income sources for St. Johns, and serves on the Special Funds Committee.

A member of IODE Earl Mountbatten Chapter in St. Catharines, Lorraine is just one example of the many IODE women in Ontario dedicated to improving the quality of life for those in need in her community.

Stay tuned next month for a glimpse of another IODE member. Please contact us to nominate someone your chapter as a "Member of the Month".
